I am delighted that you have expressed an interest in the role of Chief Executive of St Albans City and District Council.

This is an exciting and pivotal time for St Albans. We have not had a Chief Executive for five years and want therefore to get this key appointment right. We are keen to appoint a Chief Executive who will give us the clarity of leadership and the policy focus that will take us on the road to excellence. You will help us fulfil our ambition to be Hertfordshire’s Premier Community and to deliver high quality, best value services to residents.

St Albans is an attractive and prosperous district with a sophisticated and highly educated population and a real sense of community. We have a long and fascinating history and a distinctive heritage, but there are also many exciting things happening in the future. New leisure and museum facilities and a new cinema will be developed and a new hospital is planned to open in 2009.

Culture and heritage are going through significant changes, and radical solutions are being developed to tackle traffic and road issues. Next year will bring the renewal of several major outsourced council contracts, and our IT strategy will transform communications for both customer access to information and in terms of the way the Council works. Tourism will become an increasing economic driver.
